About Me

I’m Matthew Spence, and I am many things, but for now let me tell you about me as a web developer. Be sure to check out what I do for more details on my skill set.

Technophobes are people too

I like to work with ordinary people, helping them achieve extraordinary things online. Whether that means explaining the jargon and technicalities in a way they understand or hiding it all behind a polished layer of magical goodness that just works.

I make web sites and applications with interfaces, language and graphics that are functional, easy to use, emotive and engaging. A web site is an investment and as such should return. I don’t just build sites, but consult and advise on how to ensure the time, effort and money you put into your site is invested well.

It gets a bit technical from here on, hang on!

I love php and it’s open source community, using 3rd party code and frameworks to streamline development. Delivering advanced web systems at a cost a fraction of their true value.

Its 2009, which means web 2.0

Rich user environments are my real passion, using jQuery and ajax to deliver graphical interfaces that users can effortlessly navigate. I love pretty, I love shiny, I love animated and I love what’s new. But I’m not interested in gimmicks, unless it adds value I don’t want to know!

I’m a person too

What time isn’t spent in front of a computer is usual spent with my girlfriend and our Chinese Shar Pei – Aslan, often on a picnic. When I get a spare second to myself I like to play a bit of Xbox or tinker on our Home Theater PC, there’s no getting away from it I love tech’.
